The construction of three bridges, over the rivers that cross between the beaches of Garza and Nosara in Guanacaste, is advancing, according to the Ministry of Public Transportation.

The ministry has budgeted more than $3 million for the construction of the three bridges, over the Rempujo, Esperanza and Sube y Baja rivers that are along route 160 in Guanacaste Province.

According to Luis Amador-Jiménez, minister of Transportation, the construction on the Rempujo River is 31% advanced. The construction of the Esperanza river has an advance of 21%. The last bridge, over Sube y Baja, has about 4% progress since its construction started.

Authorities are scheduled to inaugurate these bridges in December.

“We are working with the goal to finish these bridges by the end of the year, precisely to improve tourism at the beginning of the high season. But there are always inconveniences caused by the bad weather that forces us to delay. Like Storm Bonnie a couple of weeks ago," Amador said.

The bridges over the rivers Rempujo and Sube y Baja include two lanes for traffic in both directions. Each lane is 3.65-meters wide. It also includes a pedestrian walkway 1.2-meters wide on each side of the bridge. Both structures are 24-meters long and 9.7-meters wide.

The bridge over Esperanza River also includes two lanes and a pedestrian crossing. The distance is less, only 18-meters long.

Tropical storm Bonnie caused serious damage to roads and bridges in July. One massive landslide happened on route 32, between the provinces of San José and Limón, which had to be closed for more than 10 days.

According to the ministry, more infrastructure improvements are taking place in the country.  Recently, route 4 in Alajuela Province was fixed.

Earlier this month, the installation of three bridges in Alajuela broke ground.

In June, construction began for a bridge in Puntarenas Province.

In May, some repairs were finished on Santa Cruz Canton highway in Guanacaste.

Also, construction is advancing for the first three-level highway and the largest viaduct in the country.

In April, the new highway between the cities of Betania and San Pedro in San José was inaugurated.
