After finishing the installation of traffic signs and painting on the asphalt, in a 20-kilometer segment on Route #4, between the communities of Monterrey and Guatuso in Alajuela Province, the road is now open.


The highway upgrades included painting on the asphalt, placement of more than 280 new traffic signs and more than 7,200 roadway reflectors. The was budgeted at more than $60,000, which was covered by the Road Safety Council, according to the Ministry of Public Transportation.


The upgrades are to improve road conditions for drivers such as travel times and visibility at night and in adverse weather conditions, authorities said.



More infrastructure improvements are taking place in the country.

Recently, authorities began the installation of three bridges in Alajuela Province.


In June, construction began for a bridge in Puntarenas Province.


In May, some repairs were finished on Santa Cruz Canton highway in Guanacaste.


Also, construction is advancing for the first three-level highway and the largest viaduct in the country.


In April, the new highway between the cities of Betania and San Pedro in San José was inaugurated.
