Work on the construction of a new bridge over the Barranca River, between the beaches of Caldera and Doña Ana in Puntarenas Province, is advancing, announced the Ministry of Public Works.

This week's works began to protect the bridge's foundations. This is scheduled to last three months to reduce the risks of failure in the structure.

According to Hannia Rosales, director of the National Road Council, several improvements are being made to the bridge, such as the reinforcement of the current bridge. Later there will be placed a temporary bridge to allow traffic while a new structure is being built.

The works that are currently being carried out are on the bases of the bridge and the river bed. However, traffic signs were placed to warn drivers to cross the bridge at low speeds to reduce the deterioration of the structure.

After these works are finished, the construction of a new $10 million bridge will continue. Authorities expect to inaugurate the new bridge in 2025.

More infrastructure improvements are taking place in the country. Recently, some repairs were finished on Santa Cruz Canton highway in Guanacaste.

More important infrastructure constructions advancing are the first three-level highway and the largest viaduct in the country.

In April, the new highway between the cities of Betania and San Pedro in San José was inaugurated.
