Signe Zeicate, the wife of President Rodrigo Chaves and First Lady of Costa Rica, resigned from her position at the World Bank to assume her role in the government.

Zeicate's decision was announced by President Chaves on Wednesday, during the Governing Council's press conference.

The First Lady worked for 20 years at the World Bank. And her most recent position was as Director for the Development of Poor Countries.

According to Chaves, his wife was the one who made that decision, which will be officially announced next week.

"She will work for the well-being of Costa Rica," said Chaves. "It is a decision that she and the World Bank made, in which I did not intervene in respect of her autonomy as a professional and self-confident woman."

The first lady was born in Latvia, a country located in the north of Europe. She and President Chaves have a daughter named Isabella.

One of Zeicate's first jobs as First Lady will be to meet with the First Lady of the US. Jill Biden and her daughter, Ashley Biden, next Saturday.
