On Monday, the first direct private flight from Coolangatta International Airport (OOL) located in South East Queensland in Australia to the Daniel Oduber-Quiros International Airport (LIR) (known as Guanacaste Airport as it is located in that province), arrived in the country.

According to Coriport, the company in charge of managing the airport, this was the first non-stop flight from Australia that has arrived in Costa Rica.

"This is a private flight in a Bombardier Global 7500 aircraft with a duration of more than 15 hours and a journey of about 7,400 nautical miles," the company said.

The flight took off from Australia on Sunday and arrived in the country at 11 a.m. Costa Rica time on Monday. On board were six tourists who are on vacation in the country.

Recently, the airport announced the expansion works of the landing strip to increase the capacity of its operations. The cost of the work was budgeted at $100 million.

The expansion of the runway is part of some improvements that the airport has announced. Now passengers can access the newly inaugurated pet zone.

Also, the airport inaugurated a movement energy phone charging center. They installed stationary bicycles in the boarding halls where passengers could produce electricity while waiting for their flight.

According to the Institute of Tourism records, in 2022, about 2.3 million tourists visited the country. That is one million more visitors than in 2021.
