Passengers at the Daniel Oduber-Quiros International Airport  (LIR), known as Guanacaste Airport, can now access the recently inaugurated pet zone.

According to Vinci Airports, the company in charge of the airport administration, passengers will now be able to leave their pets in an 8.5 m² area, which is special so that both dogs and cats can be there during the waiting time for the flight.

The use of the pet area is free. The area has synthetic grass and a litter box for cats, as well as an area to drink water and a space for the animal's solid waste deposit.

In addition, the airport cleaning staff is in charge of cleaning the place continuously to prevent bad odors from bothering the rest of the passengers.

“Your pets are welcome at this airport. We seek to make waiting for the departure flight more bearable for the animals and their owners,” César Jaramillo, airport manager said.

Last week, the airport inaugurated a movement energy phone charging center. They installed stationary bicycles in the boarding halls where passengers could produce electricity while waiting for their flight.

LIR operates 16 international airlines that offer flights to 20 destinations around the world.

Another airport that announced improvements was the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in Alajuela Province, which added 30 touch-screen kiosks to better facilitate the passenger self-check process.

Records show that during the first half of the year, there have already been over 1.2 million tourists in Costa Rica.

Just last year, over 1.3 million tourists visited Costa Rica.
