Costa Rican Kenneth Tencio won the 2023 BMX Freestyle South American Open that took place in Lima, Peru.
According to the Sports Institute, Tencio won first place by reaching 94.67 points, beating Arnold Montañez from Peru with 93.00 and Gustavo Batista from Brazil with 92.33.
"Everything was perfect," said Tencio upon receiving the champion's cup.
At the international games competed 34 riders from countries such as Chile, Brazil, Canada and the U.S. among others.
Tensio will continue his training to win the Pan-American BMX Championship which will take place in May in Paraguay. Then, he will compete in the BMX World Cup to be held in France also in May.
Freestyle BMX is bicycle motocross stunt riding on BMX bikes. It is an extreme sport descended from BMX racing that consists of five disciplines: street, park, vert, trails, and flatland. In June 2017, the International Olympic Committee announced that the sport was added to the Summer Olympics.
So far this year, Costa Rican athletes have been recognized in international games. Recently, the Paralympic athlete Diego Quesada-Arias was recognized by the International Archery Federation as number one in the category of 50 meters distance archery, in America and also the fourth best in the world.
