The Costa Rican athlete Sherman Güity-Güity continues to achieve new historical records for Costa Rica, on Wednesday he won his second gold medal in the final of the T64 100-meters sprint at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2023.


The T64 category refers to athletes who compete in speed and have a leg amputation.


According to the Sports Institute, he ran in lane 4 reaching a record of 10.93 seconds at the Dubai Club for the People of Determination in the United Arab Emirates.

 

This week, Güity won his first gold medal in the 200-meter sprint race at the UAE Grand Prix. He reached a record of 21.73 seconds. 


Güity was born in Limón Province on December 3, 1996. Since a very young age, he has stood out in racing competitions at the National Sports Games.


However, in August 2017, a car crash resulted in Guity losing part of his left leg. Despite this circumstance, his dedication and persistence made him continue to do sports during his recovery period.


Currently, he has specialized in 100 and 200-meter races for athletes with disabilities.





This year, the XL National Sports Games were dedicated to Guity, who stands out for having won a gold and silver medal at the Tokyo 2020-2021 World Paralympic Games.

 

In 2022, Guity won first place in the world athletics ranking at the Para Athletics Grand Prix that took place in Mexico.

 

In 2021, Guity won a gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympic World Games.

 

This year, six countries are co-hosting the Grand Prix. The season was kicked off at the Rades Olympic Athletics Stadium in Tunis the capital of Tunisia. Then, the games are hosted by the UAE.

 

The competitions will continue in the Grand Stadium of Marrakesh, Morocco. Then, the prize will move to Centro De Alto Rendimiento Niños Heroes in Mexico. The next step will be at Armando Picchi Stadium in Jesolo, Italy. The final stop will take place at the Swiss Paraplegic Center (SPC) in Nottwil City.


The season will mark the 10th anniversary of the Grand Prix which was launched in 2013 to give top athletes more significant opportunities to compete while providing a platform to develop new talents and excellence in competition management.
