Swiss airline Edelweiss launched new flights between Oduber International Airport (LIR), known as Guanacaste Airport because of its location in Liberia Canton, and the Zürich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland, the Tourism Institute announced.

They are opening two new flights. On Wednesdays, arriving in Guanacaste at 4:45 p.m. local time and then leaving from Costa Rica at 5:55 p.m. local time.

The other flight is on Sundays. The flight arrives in Guanacaste at 9:15 p.m. local time and then departs from Costa Rica at 10:25 p.m. local time.

Additional information about flight schedules can be found on the Edelweiss website.

According to the institute, a Swiss tourist vacation is an average of 18 nights. They prefer to visit beaches and national parks. Among the main tourist activities, they enjoy learning more about flora and fauna, visiting volcanoes and surfing among other activities.

Edelweiss is one of many airlines increasing the frequency of their flights to Costa Rica.  Recently, the Mexican low-cost airline Volaris launched new flights between Costa Rica and Colombia.

Last week, a U.S. citizen named Jake Hubbell, 26, was recognized as the 10 millionth passenger to arrive at Guanacaste airport.

As of June, there have been over 1.2 million tourists in Costa Rica.

Last year, over 1.3 million tourists visited Costa Rica.
