The San Rafael
Public Hospital in
Alajuela Province is carrying out a
campaign to advance surgeries, according
to Social Security. Health
workers will perform 240 general
surgeries on patients whose operations
were pending since 2017 for hernias or
gallbladders. Also, surgeries are
planned for an additional 30 patients
who had been on the surgery list since
2019 for otorhinolaryngology, ear, nose
and throat procedures. This
campaign is part of the extra shifts to
reduce waiting times for medical
appointments. Medical services are
performed on patients who are registered
in the hospital's database. Hospital
workers will call patients to set up
medical appointments. Authorities
recommend patients keep their contact
information updated. People with
pending medical appointments can obtain
more information about the medical
campaign by visiting the hospital
information office. This is the
second massive medical services campaign
launched by the Hospital. In
April, a campaign was launched to
advance medical appointments
for diagnostic tests.
Social
Security has launched several massive
medical service campaigns to recover
the medical services delayed in the
last two years due to the
pandemic. In
May, a mammograms campaign in
Upala was launched. Also,
the public hospital
in Golfito Canton began its knee replacement surgery
campaign. The
Puntarenas Hospital launched its
campaigns to attend to 1,500 patients. During
the first quarter of this year, from
January to March, Social
Security has increased the
number of surgeries and medical
appointments due to the decrease
in cases of covid-19.
