The San
Rafael Public Hospital in
Alajuela Province is carrying out
a campaign to advance medical
appointments for diagnostic tests. According
to Social Security, the cost of
the campaign is over $536,000. It
was approved by the Technical Unit
and Medical Management. Health
workers will carry out more than
14,900 diagnostic studies in
various medical specialties, as
part of the extra shifts to reduce
waiting times for medical
appointments. The
campaign will last until
September. The medical diagnostic
tests include ultrasounds,
gastroscopies, colonoscopies,
electromyography and audiometry,
among others. Health
workers expect to do 7,800
ultrasounds, which will reduce the
waiting list for this medical
service by 70%. They
are also scheduled to perform
1,200 gastroscopies, 240
colonoscopies, 576
electromyography, 1,196
audiometries, 936 echocardiograms,
312 stress tests, 240 Holter exams
and 1,176 optometries among
others.
Not only does it allow shortening of the waiting time, but it is also the opportunity that we are giving patients to be able to try to detect lesions in early stages or follow up on a patient who was undergoing the procedure to determine their treatment,” Karen Rodríguez-Segura, medical director of the hospital said.
Medical services are performed on patients who are registered in the hospital's database. Hospital workers will call patients to set up medical appointments.
Authorities recommend patients keep their contact information updated. People with pending medical appointments can obtain more information about the medical campaign by visiting the hospital information office.
This is the fourth massive medical services campaign launched by Social Security. The Puntarenas Public Hospital launched its campaigns to attend to 1,500 patients.
