Five bridges, budgeted for more than $2.1 million, were installed on the Osa Peninsula, in the southern zone of Puntarenas Province, according to the Ministry of Transports.
Four of the bridges were installed over the Sombrero and Carbonera, Bijagual and Camanin rivers, on route 245 in Puerto Jimenez Canton.
The fifth bridge was installed over the Nuevo River, also on Route 245 but located at the western end of the peninsula near Carate Beach.
The works for installing those bridges began a year ago, which also included the construction of metal bases and security segments for the access of the bridges.
These bridges allow easy and quick access to the surrounding communities. It will minimize the risk that people had when they crossed those rivers on foot during the dry months. As well as the issue of traveling through these areas during the rainy season when the overflowing rivers restricted the traffic.
In addition, authorities assured that the Route 245 infrastructure updates between Puerto Jiménez and Carate Beach will soon begin. That road was destroyed by heavy rains and the rivers during the green season last year, mainly between October and November.
The improvement works on the current route, which is made with stones and ballast, include cleaning of pipes, sewers and the road surface, authorities said.
More infrastructure improvements are taking place in the rural area of the country. Last week, the installation began of a new bridge crossing over Quebrada Honda River in Mora Canton, located in western San José Province.
Recently, two new bridges were also inaugurated in Puntarenas Province.
In February, the construction of a new dam at Grande de Térraba River in Puntarenas Province broke ground.
