Two new bridges were built in the districts of Paquera and Cóbano in Puntarenas Province valued at $6.8 million-plus which was covered with the budget of the Rural Development Institute.

The old bridges in those areas were destroyed five years ago after Hurricane Otto damaged the region. In Paquera, the bridge connects the communities of Esperanza, San Luis and San Fernando. In Cobano, the bridge allows transit between the communities of Río Frío, San Ramón and Pavones, according to the institute.

Since the bridges were destroyed, the residents built a temporary wooden bridge to try to travel from one place to another, said Favio López, Mayor of Cóbano.

The Rural Development Institute is the organization in charge of infrastructure development in rural areas. They recently announced a plan to build the first garbage recycling center in Alajuela Province.
