Stephanie Frappart, Neuza Back and Karen Diaz will become the first all-women refereeing team for a men's World Cup match.

They have been named to take charge of Costa Rica versus Germany Group E match on Thursday at 1 p.m. Costa Rican Time, at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar.

Frappart, who was the fourth official for the Poland-Mexico Group C clash last week, will be the main referee, according to the Federation International Football Soccer Association, FIFA.

She reached another milestone after being the first female to officiate at a men's World Cup qualifier in March and a Champions League match in 2020.

The 38-year-old Frenchwoman will be joined by Brazilian Neuza and Mexican Diaz as assistants.

Frappart has also taken charge of games in Ligue 1, the Europa League, men's World Cup qualifying and the UEFA Super Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool in 2019, FIFA said.

The Costa Rica Team coach Luis Fernando Suarez called up the following players who will wear a red uniform.

  • Goalkeepers: Esteban Alvarado, Keylor Navas, Patrick Sequeira.

  • Defenders: Francisco Calvo, Juan Pablo Vargas, Kendall Waston, Oscar Duarte, Daniel Chacon, Keysher Fuller, Carlos Martinez, Bryan Oviedo, Ronald Matarrita.

  • Midfielders: Yeltsin Tejeda, Celso Borges, Youstin Salas, Roan Wilson, Gerson Torres, Douglas Lopez, Jewison Bennette, Alvaro Zamora, Anthony Hernandez, Brandon Aguilera, Bryan Ruiz.

  • Forwards: Joel Campbell, Anthony Contreras, Johan Venegas

The match will be televised on local channel 7. Also, international media such as TVE Spain, or in the U.S. on FOX, Telemundo, FuboTV, Peacock, Fox Sports App and Telemundo Deportes App.

Live updates for the game will be published on the federation's website.

Some of the athletes are promoting tourism to their homeland. They are taking advantage of advertising spots and the country's participation in the FIFA World Cup.

The debut Costa Rica game was a disappointment to the country. They lost against the Spain Team by 7 to 0.

The second game of the Costa Rica Team against the Japanese Team was held on Sunday when the Ticos managed to win 1 to 0.

This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the FIFA World Cup. The international tournament is the quadrennial men's football championship played by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The competition is taking place in Qatar until Dec. 18.
