Some of the Costa Rica Men's Soccer Team athletes are promoting tourism to their homeland. They are taking advantage of advertising spots and the country's participation in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Institute of Tourism has the motto "Costa Rica in the Soccer World Cup" featuring top players such as Joel Campbell, Celso Borges, Anthony Contreras and Brandon Aguilera.

Each one of the featured players answers a brief questionnaire about their opinions on aspects of Costa Rica such as food, culture and tourist areas.

"In this World Cup, we want some of the team's players, who are like our ambassadors in Qatar during these days, to promote the icons that make Costa Rica one of the most liked destinations in the world," Carolina Trejos, the institute advertising director said.

As part of the campaign, the institute designed a series of temporary tattoos inspired by well-known elements of Costa Rica, such as a sloth and the "Pura Vida" slogan.

The tattoos have been worn by some soccer players and also by more than 500 Costa Ricans who traveled to Qatar to watch the Soccer World Cup in person.

The series of advertising spots were released on the institute's social media, such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

Recently, the institute launched an advertising campaign during the World Cup to attract German and Spanish tourists.

The debut Costa Rica game was a disappointment to the country. Last week they lost against the Spain Team by 7 to 0.

The second game of the Costa Rica Team against the Japanese Team was held on Sunday when the Ticos managed to win 1 to 0.

The third and last game for the Ticos during the first stage of the World Cup will be against the German team on Dec. 1, at 1 p.m. Costa Rica time. In this game, all the players will wear a red uniform.

This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the FIFA World Cup. The international tournament is the quadrennial men's football championship played by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The competition is scheduled to take place in Qatar from Nov. 21 to Dec. 18.
