Encouraged by Costa Rica's participation in the FIFA Soccer World Cup that is taking place in Qatar, the Tourism Institute launched an advertising campaign to attract German and Spanish tourists.
The Costa Rican national team is listed in the Group E teams. From November 23 to 27, the Ticos will compete against teams from Spain, Japan and Germany.
According to the institute, the advertising strategy is based on promoting tourism to Costa Rica in two of the countries of the opposing teams, Spain and Germany.
The advertising spots will be published in sports news media that have the rights to broadcast the matches for countries such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, as well as Spain and Germany.
The publicity campaign includes contests where participants will raffle off free trips to Costa Rica and tickets to watch the matches between Costa Rica and its competing countries, during the World Cup in Qatar.
"Costa Rica's participation in the World Cup is a showcase to show the world the multiple tourist attractions that our country offers," Carolina Trejos, publicity director of the institute said.
On the day of Costa Rica's debut in the soccer world cup, on Nov. 23 at 10 a.m., Costa Rican time, at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, the institute will install a special area for Costa Rican fans on La Gran Vía in Madrid City, Spain.
About 200 people have been invited to the event, such as journalists and people from the Spanish show business, and representatives of tourism companies, among others. In the Costa Rica fan zone, guests will see the game, in addition to enjoying drinks and food.
Additionally, during the third game of the Costa Rica team against the German team on Dec. 1, the institute has also developed an advertising campaign through the release of videos about Costa Rica in German cities such as Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich and Berlin.
On the day of the match between Costa Rica and Germany, the institute will set up another Costa Rica fan zone in the Radio Frankfurt studio. Free food and drinks will be offered at the venue to soccer fans as well as a raffle among the guests of a trip for two to Costa Rica.
Just last year, over 1.3 million tourists visited Costa Rica. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
