The Spain Men's Soccer Team created a new record in their Federation International of Football Soccer Association, FIFA World Cup history, scoring seven goals in a 7-0 defeat over Costa Rica.
According to FIFA statistics, the Spain team attempted over 1,000 passes and had a pass completion of 94% and 72% of game possession. Three goals in the first half and four in the second.
A faultless performance from the team of coach Luis Enrique Suárez was bright and slick in possession, although their work off the ball was perhaps even more impressive.
In attack, their movement allowed them to find space between and in behind the Costa Rica midfield and defense, while they relentlessly pressed to regain possession on the rare occasion that Costa Rica had the ball.
A match
to forget for Costa Rica, who set up
defensively with a back five but had
to rip up their game plan after only
11 minutes. It's hard to say that
Coach Suárez's team played badly in
possession because they saw so little
of the ball but they really struggled
to deal with Spain's passing and
movement. A game for them to put to
the back of their minds as quickly as
possible ahead of their next match. How could the Costa Rica Team improve to win the World Cup? We would like to know your thoughts on this story. Send your comments to news@amcostarica.com
