Representatives of the Institute of Pacific Ports will participate in the Seatrade Cruise Global 2022 Fair, which will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center from April 25 to 28.

There will be more than 140 tourist destinations and more than 80 cruise lines booths featured at the fair. The event was reopened in 2021 after it was suspended due to the pandemic in April 2020.

According to authorities, the fair is the most important event and the main exhibition of the cruise industry in the world. "For this event, the institute has had the collaboration of the Costa Rican Association of the Cruise Industry, the country's shipping companies, tour operators and the regional chambers of tourism, especially the one from Quepos Beach, which will also attend the event," they said.

Seatrade brings together all business players, including cruise lines, suppliers, travel agencies, destinations and partners from Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, North and South America, among others.

Maritime tourism generates employment on the country's coasts, particularly when passengers disembark for tourist activities, benefiting local tour operators, and artisans among others.

At the Costa Rica booths, representatives will offer general information about the country, port description, tourist attractions, facilities, entry requirements and health protocols.

On Sept. 1, 2021, Costa Rica reopened the maritime borders for cruise ships in the Caribbean and Pacific after 17 months of closure due to the pandemic.

As part of the strategy to boost tourism, the Tourism Institute is sponsoring videos on the British TV show, “This Morning,” to highlight Costa Rica as a top tourist destination.

Tourism is a focal point to increase the Costa Rican economy. Last week, the institute carried out an advertising campaign to promote Costa Rica in New York.

Also this month, the institute promoted tourism in the South by Southwest festival that took place in Austin, Texas, USA.

According to the institute's statistics, last year 1,347,055 tourists arrived in the country, where 94% arrived by air.
