British TV show, “This Morning,” highlights Costa Rica as a top tourist destination as part of the Tourism Institute media campaign.

“This Morning” is a British daytime TV show broadcasted live every weekday across the United Kingdom. The program hosted by Phillip Bryan Schofield and Holly Marie Willoughby, features a variety of news, showbiz, fashion, beauty, lifestyle among other entertainment topics.

“The United Kingdom is one of the markets with the best prospects for Costa Rica and therefore it is extremely important to promote the country through spaces such as 'This Morning,' which for the first time filmed in our country and lived the experience of enjoying a sanctuary of sustainability,” said Ireth Rodríguez, institute director of publicity.

The institute has sponsored three five-minute videos, presented by the Australian veterinarian Scott Miller. The videos showed the following favorite tourist attractions in Costa Rica: Sierpe, Corcovado, Uvita, the Tárcoles River, Caño Island and Monteverde, these places in Puntarenas Province. As well as the Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna in San Carlos, these in Alajuela Province.

Carrying out this campaign is part of the actions by the institute in Europe to position Costa Rica as "a biosecure destination with a sustainable model that respects its biodiversity," the authorities said.

Miller visited the country in February. He filmed the videos for a week as part of the show's miniseries called "Dr. Scott's Animals of the Americas."

Miller and his team filmed the country's wildlife including sloths, monkey species, ants, bird species and underwater life among others.

The first video aired on March 21 and the other two will be broadcast on April 4 and 18, respectively.

According to data from the institute, in 2021 more than 18,000 tourists arrived from the United Kingdom, being the fifth most important market in Europe, surpassed by Spain, Germany, France and Switzerland.

As of February 2022, authorities documented 12,174 British tourists had entered by air, they said.

Tourism is a focal point to increase the Costa Rican economy. Last week, the institute carried out an advertising campaign to promote Costa Rica in New York.

Also this month, the institute promoted tourism in the South by Southwest festival that took place in Austin, Texas, USA.

According to the institute's statistics, last year 1,347,055 tourists arrived in the country, where 94% arrived by air.
