The
Tourism Institute and many Costa Rican
companies participated this week in
FIEXPO Latin America, which took place
at the Panamá Convention Center in
Panamá City, Panamá. According
to the Institute, this fair is one of
the most important in the tourism
industry in Latin America. About 820
tourism companies from 17 countries
participated in the fair, mainly
related to the organization of
meetings, events and congresses. From
Costa Rica, the hotel companies that
participated in the fair were Wyndham
Garden Hotel, Costa Rica Convention
Center, Costa Rica Top Tours, Radisson
Hotel, Costa Rica DMC, Costa Rica
Convention Bureau and Croc's Casino
Resort. According
to Rafael Quesada, the institute's
promotion manager, this fair is the
most important in the region, where
companies that promote convention
tourism from Canada and the United
States participate. "It is an
opportunity for the development and
positioning of Costa Rica in this
segment of the tourism industry,"
Quesada said.
Participating
in this type of fair is part of
the institute's strategies to
position Costa Rica as an
excellent alternative for the
congress industry, said the
institute in its statement. According
to the institute's statistics,
the meetings industry represents
22% of tourism worldwide and the
participant has high purchasing
power, spending three to four
times more than a traditional
tourist. As
part of the strategies to boost
tourism, in April, authorities
eliminated the covid pass
requirement for fully-vaccinated
people and the policy insurance
requirement for unvaccinated
people. Since
then, the government eased the
pandemic health guidelines. The
country will no longer require
tourists to present a negative
covid-19 test, quarantine upon
arrival, be fully vaccinated or
have travel policy insurance.
Also, the online health pass was
disabled. Recently, representatives
of the Tourism Institute
participated in the IMEX
Frankfurt tourism
fair. What should Costa Rican authorities do to boost tourism? We would like to know your thoughts on this story. Send your comments to news@amcostarica.com
