reported that in Costa Rica, there have been
6,333,040 vaccines against covid-19 applied
to people in the country.
Approximately 85% of the population or 3,669,812 people have received their first dose. And 2,663,228 people have completed their two-dose treatment, approximately 62% of the population, including 15,712 people who received their covid-19 vaccine abroad. The country has a herd immunity goal of at least 83% of the population, about 4,274,344 fully-vaccinated people in Costa Rica, authorities say. Currently, the vaccination campaign is focused on nationals, residency DIMEX cardholders and immigrants over the age of 12. The vaccination campaign now also includes undocumented foreigners living in Costa Rica. There is no need to prove immigration status to get vaccinated in Costa Rica. Authorities' only request for people to show their passports for registration purposes only. Vaccines are available in public hospitals, clinics, some universities and commercial centers. But authorities are advising people eligible to get the vaccine to first stop by their local public clinic, known as Ebais, to get information on the vaccination program for that specific area or by calling the Social Security Covid line 905-225-2000. If the Covid line is saturated, the list of clinics or hospitals can be found on the Covid Vaccination Campaign website. Social Security reported on Tuesday that there are 862 patients hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU) for covid-19. Of these 343 were in intensive care and 519 in a living room bed. Of the 343 patients in the ICU, 65.3% were not vaccinated, 14.3% had their schedule incomplete, and 5.2% had less than fifteen days after receiving the second dose. The remaining 15.2% of patients in the ICU were completely vaccinated. Costa Rica has applied a vaccination mandate for all public employees to be fully vaccinated. As of January 8, 2022, full vaccination will be mandatory for people over the age of 12 to enter any artistic, cultural or mass event, according to authorities. As the eligibility requirements expand for people to get their covid-19 vaccine, this week, the government announced its plan to provide free booster shots against to a certain group of adults and children. As of Friday, Costa Rica has imported 6,926,385 vaccines against covid-19. However, the virus continues advancing in the country. On Tuesday, the health authorities reported 60,253 active covid-19 cases. Of the total 557,922 cases detected since last year, there were 6,997 deaths listed as covid-19 related, approximately a 1.3% death rate, according to the statistics, which can be found on the Health Ministry website. The pandemic has killed more than 4.9 million people worldwide, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University. ------------------ How far along is your country in achieving herd immunity against covid-19?
