Deputy Víctor Morales is the new
Minister of the Presidency

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

President Carlos Alvarado, announced to Víctor Morales-Mora as the new Minister of the Presidency, replacing Rodolfo Piza-Rocafort.

In the announcement, President Alvarado said the work done by Morales- Mora as a deputy "has been fundamental to consolidate the dialogue and the great reforms that this Government is promoting."

Morales-Mora said in his acceptance speech that he "accepted this position with the determination to promote, with all my dedication and commitment, the vision of integral, sustainable, and inclusive development that you, Mr. President, have proposed to the country."

According to the information provided by the Ministry of the Presidency, Morales-Mora has a background as a lawyer, a two-time deputy, a minister in two other governments and was mayor of the city of Aserrí* in the province of San José.

On July 29, as A.M. Costa Rica previously reported, Piza-Rocafort, presented his resignation letter to President Carlos Alvarado, to be effective Thursday, August 1st.

As of September, Piza-Rocafort will assume a new job within the Organization of American States, OAS.

According to the government, among the main achievements of Piza-Rocafort are the approval of the Law on Strengthening of Public Finances, known as VAT tax and the negotiations with trade unions.

The main duties of a Minister of the Presidency are supporting and advising the President, working as the link between the government and other institutions, including congress, and organizations such the unions or chambers of commerce, among others.
