The San Francisco, California-headquartered firm Gener8 LLC, a portfolio company of Sverica Capital Management LP, announced their new manufacturing plant in La Lima Industrial Zone in Cartago Province.

According to the company, its new 30,000-square-foot manufacturing plant will enable highly complex electromechanical instrument production in an ESD-controlled environment.

“Just as Gener8 has aggressively built a complete biotech instruments design services solution comprised of hardware, software and microfluidic cartridges, the Costa Rican site adds the last piece for a complete product life cycle solution - efficient, high-volume manufacturing," Gener8 CEO Jerry Jurkiewicz said. "This is a compelling offering for our customers.”

According to Jurkiewicz, they chose Costa Rica because of its wealth of technical talent, its eager and available workforce, and its geographic and time zone proximity to their U.S. operations.

Gener8 will employ 60 employees in the first 12 months with an aggressive growth projection in the coming years. The company is hiring engineers and technicians with experience in mechatronics, systems integration and software testing. People interested in applying for a job vacancy should visit the firm Career's site.

Gener8 is one of many U.S. firms investing in Costa Rica. This week, the California-headquartered Arkose Labs, a firm focused on bot management and account security, announced the opening of its office in San José Province.

Even though new businesses are creating jobs in Costa Rica, the unemployment rate has increased to 12%, according to the National Employment Survey. The data recorded from July to September, show that there are more than 297,000 people without registered jobs. Of these, 165,000 are women, making up 55% of unemployed people in the country.
