New York-headquartered co-working and office rental firm, WeWork, inaugurated its second location in Escazú Canton, San José.

“This new building becomes a wager and a leap of faith to continue providing Costa Rican companies and talent with spaces to match their requirements, preferences, and employment needs," Karen Scarpetta, the firm's Regional Manager, said. "WeWork’s investment in Escazú Village is a reflection of the growing appetite shown by multinationals, SMEs, and entrepreneurs in strengthening their business in Costa Rica thanks to the excellent investment climate that the country provides.”

According to the firms, the business center represents an investment above $11 million, in a building of 11,000 m2 spread out over five floors located in Tower II of Escazú Village, between floors 2 and 6.

By opening these new facilities, jobs have been provided to around 50 people through outsourced services related to areas such as security, occupational health and maintenance, they said.   People interested in applying for a job vacancy should visit their Career site.

Besides Costa Rica, WeWork has locations in the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico.

WeWork is one of many U.S. companies investing in Costa Rica. Last week, the firm Avionyx, a company specializing in developing and verifying software for aeronautical systems, opened more than 50 new vacancies for its facilities located in Heredia.

Even though new businesses are creating jobs in Costa Rica, the unemployment rate is 12%, according to the National Employment Survey. The survey reveals that, from March to May, there are approximately more than 293,000 people without registered jobs. Of these 162,000 are women which is 55% of unemployed people in the country.
