Massachusetts-based Thermo Fisher Scientific, producers of scientific instrumentation, reagents and consumables and software and services to healthcare, announced the expansion of its operations in the country.
The firm opened a new center of customer support for the direct purchasing, indirect purchasing, and purchasing excellence teams.
The new business center is located in the Ultra Park Industrial zone, in Lagunilla District, Heredia Province, and will support operations in the United States.
The growth has made it
possible for the company to increase
jobs, adding to the company’s currently
more than 70 local employees.
The U.S. firm already maintains a financial services center and commercial operations in Costa Rica. The range of required experience is extensive since the company has openings that vary from basic entry-level jobs to senior management positions, but candidates need an advanced level of English. People interested in applying for a job vacancy should visit the company's careers site.
Thermo Fisher is one of many U.S. companies investing in Costa Rica. Recently, Colorado-headquartered Liberty Latin America opened operations in the country.
Even though new businesses are creating jobs in Costa Rica, the unemployment rate is 13.3%, according to the National Employment Survey. The survey reveals that, from February to April, there are approximately more than 325,000 people without registered jobs. Of these 176,000 are women which is the 54% of unemployed people in the country. --------------------
