The San Vicente de Paul Public Hospital in Heredia Province is carrying out a campaign for Salpingectomy surgeries for its patients, including foreigners with residence identification known as DIMEX, Social Security announced.

Salpingectomy refers to the surgical removal of a Fallopian tube. This may be done to treat an ectopic pregnancy or cancer, to prevent cancer, or as a form of contraception.

According to authorities, as of this week, 30 surgeries will be carried out per week, from Monday to Friday. Patients that get the operation will receive medications on the same day and be taken to recover at home.

These surgeries were suspended in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic since they were not considered emergency surgeries, authorities said.

Hospital workers will call patients to set up medical appointments. The medical services are performed on patients who are registered in the hospital's database.

Authorities recommend for patients to keep their contact information updated. People with pending salpingectomy surgeries can obtain more information about the medical campaign by visiting the hospital information office.

This is one of a handful of non-emergency medical service campaigns that Social Security has launched to reduce waiting times for medical appointments. Recently, the Guapiles Public Hospital carried out a campaign for cataract surgeries.
