As of October, Traffic Police reported 402 deaths caused by traffic accidents. That marks 112 more than the 290 deaths reported in the same period last year.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Transports, 189 deaths were motorcyclists, equivalent to 47% of deaths. The 12% of deaths (50 people) were car drivers and 7% of fatalities were bike riders (31 people), police said.

The leading cause of road accidents this year is speeding with more than 157 fatalities. Also, 68 deaths were caused by drivers driving in the opposite lane. Fifty-three people (13%) died for being reckless pedestrians. And 24 people (5%) died from drunk driving.

Reckless driving continues on an upswing. Recently, more than 30 drivers were fined for breaking the Traffic Law.

Last year, more than 300 people died in traffic accidents.

Police call on drivers to respect the law and take precautionary measures to avoid accidents. People can report any case of reckless driving to the 911 emergency line.
