As of September, Traffic Police reported 361 traffic accident deaths. This year marks 105 more than the 256 deaths reported in the same period of last year.

According to the Ministry of Public Transports statistics, 168 deaths were motorcyclists, equivalent to 46% of deaths. The 12% of deaths (44 people) were car drivers and the 7% of fatalities were bike riders (27 people), police said.

The leading cause of road accidents this year is speeding with more than 138 fatalities. Also, 57 deaths were caused by drivers driving in the opposite lane. Forty-eight people died for being reckless pedestrians.

Reckless driving continues on an upswing. Recently, more than 36,750 drivers were fined for breaking the Traffic Law.

Last year, more than 300 people died in traffic accidents.

Police call on drivers to respect the law and take precautionary measures to avoid accidents. People can report any case of reckless driving to the 911 emergency line.
