The new viaduct in Curridabat Canton in San José Province meant to expedite the transit of vehicles to Cartago Province could cause a traffic jam.
According to the Ministry of Public Transport, the viaduct will be built in Cipreses District, also known as the intersection next to the Galera gas station.
The 60-meter viaduct will be built in the section that connects Cipreses District and Route 2, named Florencio del Castillo in honor of a Costa Rican clergyman and politician who lived from 1778 to 1834.
The cost of the project was budgeted at more than $3.6 million, which is covered by the ministry's budget. The construction is in charge of the consortium formed by three private companies, Typsa, Conansa and PuentePrefa.
The new
highway and viaduct are scheduled to
be inaugurated in July 2024. Then, it
will allow quick passes of about
44,000 vehicles through the area
daily. Authorities
are calling on drivers to try to avoid
crossing through the Galera zone.
Instead, use alternative routes to
cross from Cipreses to Tres Rios
Canton in Cartago Province. For
drivers who travel through the
construction zone, there will be
traffic officers regulating the
passage of vehicles. More
improvements on San José Province
roads have been completed
recently. Last
week, progress of the construction
of the first three-level highway in
Costa Rica allowed the opening of
the borderline roads around this
project. ----------------------
