Mexican low-cost airline Volaris launched direct flights between Costa Rica and Peru, the Tourism Institute said.

Currently, the airline offers flights from the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO), located in Alajuela Province, to El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia and the U.S.

With these routes, the airline will increase its passenger flow, which since its start of operations in 2016, has exceeded two million people, the institute said.

“At Volaris we are defining the new way to travel at low cost because travelers spend less on their flight and much more on everything Costa Rica has to offer," said Ronny Rodríguez, director of Volaris Central America. "We are focused on tourism in revenge for those who want to make up for lost time due to the pandemic, as well as those tourists visiting a destination for longer while working remotely.”

The flights have costs from $99, including taxes. People can travel from SJO to Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, said the airline.

The flight leaves from Costa Rica at 14:20 hours local time, arriving in Lima at 19 hours local time. The return flight from Peru leaves at 20 hours local time, arriving in Costa Rica at 22:45 hours local time.

Volaris is one of many airlines increasing the frequency of their flights to Costa Rica. Recently, three U.S. airlines announced more flights to the Guanacaste Airport.
