Three U.S. airlines increased the frequency of their flights to the Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR) in Liberia Canton, known as Guanacaste Airport, announced VINCI Airports, the company in charge of managing the airport.
From May to July, American Airlines, United Airlines and JetBlue are increasing the frequency of flights between U.S. cities and LIR.
American Airlines expanded its daily frequency from two to three flights flying out of Miami, Florida. The airline is also increasing the number of weekly flights out of Dallas from once a week to now every day.
United Airlines increased from one flight per week to two per week from Denver, Colorado. Similarly, it was increased from Newark, New Jersey, from one flight to two per week.
JetBlue increased from three to four weekly flights from New York to Guanacaste.
"Airlines trust Guanacaste as an attractive and safe destination, which is reflected in April traffic, 23% higher than the same month in 2019,” said César Jaramillo, Guanacaste Airport Manager.
As
of March, the Guanacaste
airport recorded over
164,000 passengers. This
figure shows the recovery of the
level of passengers registered
before the pandemic in 2019,
with over 166,000 visitors. In
April, the U.S. Department of
State upgraded the
recommendation level for
traveling to Costa Rica from 4
to 2. Category 2 recommendation
was the same as the country had
in 2019, before the pandemic. To
increase tourism, Costa Rica
eliminated the covid pass
requirement for fully-vaccinated
people and the policy insurance
requirement for unvaccinated
people, beginning April 1. Since
then, the government eased the
pandemic health guidelines. The
country will no longer need
tourists to present a negative
covid-19 test, quarantine upon
arrival, be fully vaccinated
against covid-19, nor purchase
travel policy insurance. The
online Health Pass was also
disabled. As
of March, Costa Rica had
more than 630,000 tourists
in the country.
