For a month, several extra-size photos of Costa Rican trees have been exhibited in the streets of Paris, to promote the country as a tourist destination.

The exhibition called "Paris-Costa Rica: friendship through the trees" was inaugurated in the City Hall of Paris, and is being sponsored by the Institute of Tourism.

"The exhibition is part of the institute's efforts to boost tourism from France before the pandemic, and thereby contribute to the reactivation of tourism," the institute said in its statement.

The display that will be held until May 9, has 12 photographs of 10 species of native trees of Costa Rica, as part of a selection made by the photographer, Giancarlo Pucci.

This exhibition was an initiative of the Embassy of Costa Rica in France with the sponsor of the institute and the support of the Paris City Hall in providing its facilities.

The large-size photographs are kept inside and outside the municipality building, located on Rivoli Street. "Pedestrians watched the majesty and magic of our forests," the institute said.

According to the institute, the French who visit Costa Rica has a high educational level and are fans of sustainable tourism and nature.

Average spending and length of stay are quite high, surpassing that of citizens of many other countries, the institute said.

In 2019, the year before the pandemic, authorities registered 72,000 French tourists visiting Costa Rica. While in 2020, during January and February, before the borders were closed, over 16,000 French tourists were registered.

As of this month, the covid pass requirement for fully-vaccinated people to enter Costa Rica was eliminated, as well as the policy insurance requirement for the unvaccinated.

As part of its strategy to boost tourism from Europe, the institute was sponsoring videos on the British TV show, “This Morning,” to highlight Costa Rica as a top tourist destination.

Recently, the authorities announced their participation in the Seatrade Cruise Global 2022 Fair, which will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center in the U.S., to boost tourism.

According to the institute's statistics, last year 1,347,055 tourists arrived in the country, where 94% arrived by air.
