The Tourism Institute is carrying out an advertising campaign to promote Costa Rica to the U.S. States and the Canadian province of Ontario.

With the motto "Only The Essentials", the campaign consists of giant billboards placed in Manhattan in New York, in Lincoln & Diversey/Racine Avenue in Chicago and the CF Eaton Centre in Toronto. They’ll be on walls across main streets inviting pedestrians to choose Costa Rica for their next vacation or getaway destination.

Ads are featuring the country's famous destinations such as volcanoes, hot springs, beaches and rainforests, among others, as part of the “Only The Essentials” tourism campaign developed by the institute.

"These three cities concentrate thousands of our best tourist prospects and provide direct flights to Costa Rica," Carolina Trejos, director of marketing of the institute said.

The U.S. is the main source of tourists to Costa Rica. According to the institute's statistics, last year, over 1,250,000 U.S. citizens visited the country by air. While from Canada, 170,000 tourists arrived by air.

The tourism campaign includes videos to be published on the institute's social media.

This is one of many international advertising campaigns launched by the institute. Recently, the institute supported representatives of 35 Costa Rican tourism companies to promote their services at the International Tourism Fair, Fitur, held in Madrid, Spain.

During the first half of 2022, there have already been over 1.2 million tourists in Costa Rica.

In 2021, over 1.3 million tourists visited Costa Rica.
