Social Security reported that in Costa Rica, there have been 6,124,455 vaccines against covid-19 applied to people in the country.

Approximately 73% of the population or 3,597,302 people have received their first dose. And 2,527,143 people have completed their two-dose treatment, approximately 50% of the population, including 15,712 people who received their covid-19 vaccine abroad.

The country has a herd immunity goal of at least 83% of the population, about 4,274,344 fully-vaccinated people in Costa Rica, authorities say.

Currently, the vaccination campaign is focused on nationals, residency DIMEX cardholders and immigrants over the age of 18. Certain public clinics are also vaccinating youth between the ages of 12 and 17, depending on their health qualifications.

The vaccination campaign now also includes undocumented foreigners living in Costa Rica. There is no need to prove immigration status in order to get vaccinated in Costa Rica. Authorities only request is for people to show their passport for registration purposes only.

Vaccines are available in public hospitals, clinics, some universities and commercial centers. But authorities are advising people eligible to get the vaccine to first stop-by their local public clinic, known as Ebais, to get information on the vaccination program for that specific area or by calling the Social Security Covid line 905-225-2000.

If the Covid line is saturated, the list of clinics or hospitals can be found on the Social Security Covid Vaccination Campaign website.

Costa Rica has applied a vaccination mandate for all public employees to be fully vaccinated.

As of Nov. 1, fully vaccinated people will be able to attend mass events, such as theaters, cinemas, cultural festivals, concerts, among others.

Costa Rica will provide free booster vaccines against covid-19 to a certain group of adults and children.

As of Friday, Costa Rica has imported  6,818,745 vaccines against covid-19.

However, the virus continues advancing in the country. On Tuesday the health authorities reported 69,362 active covid-19 cases. Of the total 552,953 cases detected since last year, there were 6,857 deaths listed as covid-19 related, approximately a 1.2% death rate, according to the statistics, which can be found on the Health Ministry website.

The pandemic has killed more than 4.9 million people worldwide, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.
