The Tourism Institute sponsored an article in the Canadian Pax Nouvelles online magazine to promote Costa Rica as an adventure destination.

According to the institute, the article received 22,000 visits in a month. "This is part of the permanent efforts of the institute's advertising department to keep Costa Rica in the minds of the best prospects in Canada, a country that is our second source market for tourists," the institute said in its statement.

The tourism magazine located in Quebec mentioned in its article that "Costa Rica emphasizes adventures worthy of the greatest dreams." Some of the top tourist spots in the country such as Rincón de la Vieja volcano, "offers an exhilarating hike to its summit, from where the remarkable views of the Nicoya Peninsula are quite a reward," the publication printed.

More magical treasures of Costa Rica promoted as adventure destinations mentioned in the sponsored article were Tenorio Volcano in Guanacaste and Celeste River in Alajuela.

Recently, delegates of the institute promoted Costa Rica as a tourist destination at the Outdoor Adventure Show that was held at the International Center in Toronto, Canada.

Canada is a market of more than 3 million potential tourists, mainly from cities such as Toronto, Montreal and Calgary, the institute said. From these three cities, four airlines, Air Canada, Air Transat, Sunwing and WestJet offer direct flights to Costa Rica.

According to statistics from the institute, Canada is the second country that generates more tourists to Costa Rica following the U.S.

In 2019, before the pandemic, over 234,000 Canadian tourists arrived in the country. During the first quarter of this year, from January to March, more than 61,000 Canadians arrived by air.

As of March, Costa Rica had more than 630,000 tourists in the country.

Last year, over 1.3 million tourists arrived in Costa Rica.

In April, Costa Rica eliminated the covid pass requirement for fully-vaccinated people and the policy insurance requirement for unvaccinated people, beginning April 1.

Since then, the government eased the pandemic health guidelines. The country will no longer need tourists to present a negative covid-19 test, quarantine upon arrival, be fully vaccinated against covid-19 or travel policy insurance. Also, the online Health Pass was also disabled.
