Delegates of the Tourism Institute promoted Costa Rica as a tourist destination at the Outdoor Adventure Show that was held at the International Center in Toronto, Canada.
According to the institute, this is the largest tourism fair in Canada. The event promotes from trips to camping equipment.
The fair caters to a more active tourist, a lifestyle involving sports and outdoor activities, the institute said in its statement.
In a recent survey by Leger Marketing, 76% of Canadians surveyed indicated that the pandemic has given them a more significant preference for outdoor activities.
Canadian tourists seek to escape the intense winter of their country. They prefer to explore other cultures and relax in natural environments, they said.
Fair goers learned about adventurous activities in Costa Rica such as canopy, surfing, hiking, rafting, horseback riding, snorkeling, diving and kayaking, among others.
Canada
is a market of more than 3 million
potential tourists, mainly from
cities such as Toronto, Montreal
and Calgary, the institute said.
From these three cities, four
airlines, Air Canada, Air Transat,
Sunwing and WestJet offer direct
flights to Costa Rica. According
to statistics from the institute,
Canada is the second country that
generates more tourists to Costa
Rica behind the U.S. In
2019, before the pandemic, over
234,000 Canadian tourists arrived
in the country. During the first
quarter of this year, from January
to March, more than 61,000
Canadian have arrived by air. As
part of the country's strategy to
boost tourism, representatives
of the institute participated
in the Seatrade Cruise Global
2021 Fair in the U.S. Costa
Rica eliminated the covid pass
requirement for fully-vaccinated
people and the policy insurance
requirement for unvaccinated
people, beginning April 1. Since
then, the government eased the
pandemic health guidelines. The
country will no longer need
tourists to present a negative
covid-19 test, quarantine upon
arrival, be fully vaccinated
against covid-19 or travel policy
insurance. The online Health Pass
was also disabled. As
of March, Costa Rica had more
than 630,000 tourists in the
country.
