Social Security reported that in Costa Rica, there have been 6,567,309 vaccines against covid-19 applied to people in the country.

Approximately 75% of the population or 3,751,251 people have received their first dose. Approximately 55% of the population, or 2,798,296 people have completed their two-dose treatment. Plus 234,269 people have completed the extra third-dose. Social Security provides free booster shots to a certain group of adults and children.

The country has a herd immunity goal of at least 83% of the population, about 4,274,344 fully-vaccinated people in Costa Rica, authorities say.

Currently, the vaccination campaign is focused on nationals, residency DIMEX cardholders and immigrants over the age of 12.

The vaccination campaign also includes undocumented foreigners living in Costa Rica. There is no need to prove immigration status to get vaccinated.

Vaccines are available in public hospitals, clinics, some universities and commercial centers. But authorities are advising people eligible to get the vaccine to first stop by their local public clinic, known as Ebais, to get information on the vaccination program for that specific area or by calling the Social Security Covid line 905-225-2000. If the Covid line is saturated, the list of clinics or hospitals can be found on the Covid Vaccination Campaign website.

Costa Rica has applied a vaccination mandate for all public employees to be fully vaccinated.   Also, as of January 8, 2022, full vaccinations will be mandatory for people over the age of 12 to enter any artistic, cultural or mass event, according to authorities. People inoculated in Costa Rica can obtain the online covid pass for free.

As of Friday, Costa Rica has imported 7,031,685 vaccines against covid-19.

However, the virus continues to be active in the country. On Tuesday, the health authorities reported 48,252 active covid-19 cases. Of the total 561,054 cases detected since last year, there were 7,093 deaths listed as covid-19 related, approximately a 1.3% death rate, according to the statistics on the Health Ministry website.

The pandemic has killed more than 5 million people worldwide, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.
