cities for meetings, tourism, says government

According to the government, through the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, Guanacaste* and San José* were included in the list of the best cities in Latin America for the event development.

According to the Institute, these two cities are in the list of favorites for tourism.

The study is known as Cvent. It measures locations with the most projection and suitable characteristics in the segment of meetings, incentives, congress, and events, known as MICE.

In the most recent Cvent ranking published this month, Guanacaste is in the 11th position and San José on the 24th, in the list of The Best 25 Meeting Destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean of 2019.

San José was listed for the first time, due to the number of hotels suitable for meetings and events, as well as the number of rooms available, among other features, were taken into consideration for the listing.

The list of the first 25 cities that San Jose and Guanacaste have been compared to are place such as Nassaur in the Bahamas, Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Mexico City, Cabo San Lucas, La Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, among others.

"The institute has made significant efforts to post Costa Rica as a solid destination in the tourism segment of meetings, events, and incentives in recent years through joint work with the private sector," said Rafael Quesada, Chief of Advertising for the institute. "The recent opening of the Costa Rica Convention Center is complemented by more high-level options in the case of San José."

In Guanacaste, a significant tourism investment was made with hotels that are ideal for hosting events, Quesada said.

According to the statistics of the institute, the meetings industry is 22 percent of tourism worldwide.

This type of tourist is of high-level status and invests 3 to 4 times more than a traditional tourist, says the institute.

Cvent is a network of providers of the database of hotels, destinations for special events, conference centers, and restaurants among others. The network records more than 200,000 thousand places and 20,000 suppliers worldwide.
