Contests for non-refundable funds for entrepreneurs are now open By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Two programs to obtain non-refundable funds are open for entrepreneurs who enter the contest. These programs are Green Growth and Discover. Both programs are designed for owners of companies classified as small or medium, known as SMEs. The Costa Rican USA Foundation for Cooperation, know as CRUSA, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Banking Development System will provide the funds to finance these two programs. Both programs are managed by the Foreign Trade Promoter organization, known as Procomer. The goal is to distribute the funds throughout 80 chosen companies. The “Green Growth” program goal is to improve the environment and exports of SMEs. The “Discover” program goal is to diversify agriculture, fisheries, and to attract investments into rural areas. Upon the announcement of these two programs, President Alvarado said the Government “seeks to speed up the economy, be more competitive, and productive. My commitment is with inclusive and sustainable economic growth and the country's future productivity.” Entrepreneurs may be interested in the contest to receive technical advice, equipment acquisition, certifications, and innovations, among others. The winner's companies will obtain non-refundable financing of up to 80 percent for the development of their project. The value of the projects varies by category. The maximum amount per project is $15,000. To classify as a contender, the entrepreneur must meet the following requirements: - The company should be classified as a SME. - The company should be registered in Social Security and have payment quotas updated. - The company must have all the legal permits required for the operation of the business. - In the case of exporters, companies must be registered with Procomer. - They must submit their project before August 30th.
