Costa Rica staff On Wednesday, the Massachusetts-based company Tripadvisor, recognized Costa Rica among the best destinations to travel this year in their ranking made based on travelers' choices for this year. "If 2021 was the year travelers dipped their toes in the water with smaller getaways and outdoors trips, 2022 is shaping up to be the year we return to travel in a big way," Tripadvisor said in its statement. "Despite new variant surges, data shows that the desire to travel remains stronger than ever." In their survey, 71% of U.S. citizens say they are likely to travel for leisure in 2022. "As the world returns to travel, priorities are changing, and people want more memorable experiences on their trips," said Steven Paganelli, Director at Tripadvisor. "Three-quarters (75%) of Americans say that it's important they 'see new places' when thinking about their future travel plans." According to Paganelli, from adventure to R&R, the 2022 Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Awards for Destinations include several subcategories created to reflect the best places to go no matter what type of trip people's after. The ranking includes the option for popular and trending destinations for food lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, skiers, city lovers and sun-seekers, they said. In Costa Rica, La Fortuna de San Carlos city was ranked number 22. "La Fortuna de San Carlos is at the center of an array of geological wonders," Tripadvisor said in its statement. "The nearby Arenal is Costa Rica's most active volcano, routinely bursting with lava and ash, and the Catarata de La Fortuna is a waterfall pouring from a seventy-meter cliff." The survey recommended the Tabacon Hot Springs as a relaxing intermission in the midst of the various spectacles and the Leaves and Lizards Arenal Volcano Cabin Retreat is a blissful end to any day's excursion. The top 10 destinations are Majorca and Ibiza in Spain, Cairo in Egypt, Rhodes and Santorini in Greece, Tulum in Mexico, Dubrovnik in Croatia, Natal in Brazil, Arusha in Tanzania, Goreme in Turkey.
