The luxury hotel brand Riu announced the construction of a new hotel in Guanacaste Province.

The first Riu hotel was inaugurated in 2009 in Matapalo Beach in Guanacaste. The second hotel, Riu Palace, was opened in the same zone in November 2012. Currently, both hotels employ more than a thousand people.

"Thanks to the collaboration with local authorities in recent years, we have been able to develop a public-private partnership model that is essential to sponsor a Pediatric Care Clinic in Guanacaste," Carmen Riu, CEO of the hotel chain said. "With this, we can improve the conditions not only of our employees and their families but of the entire community near our hotels in Guanacaste."

The new hotel to be open in 2025 will be built in the same area and will offer more than 300 rooms, a main restaurant and a gourmet restaurant, swimming pools, entertainment areas for guests and parking for 150 vehicles.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the new hotel will generate more jobs and will improve the economy in Guanacaste.

Riu is one of many international hotel brands investing in Costa Rica. Recently, the Dubai, United Arab Emirates-headquartered ecolodge brand ENVI Lodges announced their first lodge to be located in Punta Islita Beach in Guanacaste.

Records show that during the first half of 2022, there have already been  over 1.2 million tourists in Costa Rica.

In 2021, over 1.3 million tourists visited Costa Rica.
