Due to the holidays this month and to improve the flow of vehicles to the capital for those returning from the Pacific Coast provinces, Guanacaste and Puntarenas, highway Route #27 to San José will implement reversed lanes for the rest of the Sundays, which are the Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29.

According to the Ministry of Public Transport, all available lanes between the traffic police check-post in Caldera Port in Puntarenas Province and the Ciudad Colón toll will go towards San José, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Closures will start one hour before the effective time and end one hour later, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The maximum speed allowed will be 37 mph or about 60 kph.

Drivers who travel on the opposite way, from San José to the Pacific Coast during the road reverse schedule, must do so by one of the three optional routes:

  • Route 3 from Rio Segundo Canton in Alajuela to Orotina Canton to later connect to Route 23 in Puntarenas Province.

  • Route 1 from Rio Segundo Canton in Alajuela to Esparza Canton to then enter Route 23.

  • Route 239 from Río Segundo Canton in Alajuela to Ciudad Colón District in Mora Canton to then access Route 23.

Authorities warn drivers to consider this schedule when planning their trip in one direction or another.

For an updated status of the route or to request assistance, call the Control Center at 2588-4040.
