On Wednesday, President Rodrigo Chaves-Robles issued the new Regulation for the Operation of Adventure Tourism Activities.

According to the Tourism Institute, the new regulation allows adventure tourism companies to be able to hire certified tour guides, qualified employees and people certified by international adventure organizations to meet the requirement for the different types of adventure tourism activities.

"With the issuance of the decree, it is intended to facilitate obtaining permits for (companies to start operations) without compliance with difficult requirements for companies that these activities required," President Chaves said.

The modification in the regulation seeks to improve security for tourists who hire services and the safe operation of companies.

In addition, it recognizes and regulates the role of employees who, without being adventure tourism guides, support and make it possible, with their experience and specialized knowledge, to enjoy adventure activities.

Regulation creates conditions to recognize the qualified employees that work in these activities for their knowledge, experience and give them job opportunities. It also ensures that special teams are trained to deal with emergencies that may arise in adventure trips.

More information on the scope of the decree can be requested from the Tourism Institute at its phone line 2299-5800.

Records show that during the first half of the year, there have been over 1.2 million tourists in Costa Rica.

Just last year, over 1.3 million tourists visited Costa Rica.

Recently, new regulations were issued for the concession and operation of Marinas and Tourist Ports.  The goal is to allow for the elimination of complicated bureaucratic procedures that stop more marinas and ports from being built or improved in the country's coastal touristic zones.
