This weekend the new 8-lane highway opens. Located between routes 1 and 129 in Belen Canton, Heredia Province, according to Fideicomiso Ruta Uno, the company in charge of the construction of a new overpass in the area.
Construction of the new highway began in January 2021 and is currently 90% of construction progress.
Due to work that has been done on the asphalt and concrete layer on the new overpass bridge in that area, temporary road paint will be applied since the asphalt layer is required to go through a period of oxidation. After that, the final and permanent paint will be applied on the new road.
Once this work has been fulfilled, which may take 2 to 3 weeks, temporary night closures will be carried out in some lanes.
More final works on Route 129 continue. The completed bridge is expected to be done in June, the company said.
The new viaduct is part of this project, which includes improvements over the General Cañas highway (between San José and Alajuela) and Bernardo Soto highway (between Alajuela and San Ramón).
The same construction company also inaugurated three new bridges over the rivers Segundo, Ciruelas and Alajuela, in Alajuela Province.
The project also includes improvements to the highway between the cantons of Barreal and Castella in Heredia Province, "which is in its final stage of construction," the company said in its statement.
More infrastructure improvements are taking place in the country. Recently, the Ministry of Transports warned of delays for road closure due to a road extension and traffic circle construction project being carried out in Betania District in San José Province. -------------------What have you heard about the lack of road repairs in your community?
