Finland is interested in developing a 5G network project in Costa Rica, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

According to the ministry, the Nordic country expressed their interest on Wednesday during a meeting with Minister Arnoldo André Pekka Haavisto, Ministry of Foreign Relations of Finland.

Both ministers met during the World Economic Forum that is taking place this week in Davos, Switzerland.

"Both ministers found multiple coincidences in their ideas, especially on matters such as human rights, democracy, environment, digitization and sustainable development," the ministry said in its statement.

Finland is one of the leading countries in innovation and technological developments, with advances in areas such as artificial intelligence, they added.

Recently, the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM) offered the Institute of Electricity (ICE) a loan of $300 million for the development of 5G technology projects in Costa Rica.

The Washington-headquartered bank is the official export credit agency (ECA) of the United States federal government. ICE is the Costa Rican government-run electricity and telecommunications services provider. Together with the Radiographic Costarricense SA (RACSA) and Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL), they form the ICE Group.
