In Costa Rica, there are still rural regions that lack electricity service.

This week, the Ngabe indigenous territory in Alto Laguna District, in the Osa Peninsula, now has electricity services, the Rural Development Institute announced.

The infrastructure required basic services installation across 10 miles, including poles and electrical wiring.

The project was budgeted at over $445,000, which was covered by the institute.

About 420 Ngöbe indigenous people now have electricity in their homes.

The facility of electricity is one of the most recent infrastructure improvements in indigenous territories. Earlier this month, the longest suspension bridge built over the Zent River in Matina indigenous territory in Limón Province was inaugurated.
