By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Eight representatives
of Mexican travel agencies are visiting
Costa Rica for a week to explore the country
and promote it to their clients, announced
the Tourism Institute.
"The Mexican tourist enjoys wellness, hot springs, volcanoes, canopy, rafting and trekking," Ireth Rodríguez, head of the Promotion Department of the Institute said. "In addition, the location of our country, airline connectivity, among other factors, makes Costa Rica an attractive destination and hence the importance of actions to promote the country when tourism is improving and the high season is approaching," she said. The travel agents visited Braulio Carrillo National Park, Sarapiquí Canton in Limón Province, San Carlos Canton in Alajuela Province, Hermosa Beach in Guanacaste and Herradura Beach in Puntarenas Province. According to the institute, the Mexican travel agencies were invited to experience Costa Rica through the company Grupo-Proimagen-Futuropa, which was hired to promote the image of the country. In addition, the institute will be sponsoring a tour of 12 representatives of other travel agencies that will be taking place between Nov. 7 and 11 by the Volaris airline. Since Oct. 1, the institute hired the Mexican public relations agency RPConnect Worldwide to carry out promotional projects in their respective country. Three representatives of the agency are in the country touring San José, the beaches of Nosara, Tamarindo, Papagayo in Guanacaste Province, the Rincón de la Vieja National Park, among many other places. These executives will carry out an advertising campaign to promote Costa Rica as a tourist destination for Mexico. Currently, airlines such as Aeroméxico and Volaris are offering direct flights between Mexico and Costa Rica. In December, the Avianca airline will also include direct trips from Mexico to Costa Rica. According to the institute's advertising department, there could be half a million Mexicans interested in vacationing in Costa Rica. Before the pandemic, more than 90,000 tourists from Mexico arrived in the country, making them the third-largest tourist market, following the United States and Canada as the first two tourist markets for Costa Rica, according to data from the institute. The United States, from January to September of this year, had 46,804 tourists arrive in Costa Rica. This is equivalent to 93.3% of the number of visitors who arrived before the pandemic in 2019, the institute said. All U.S. airlines are offering trips to Costa Rica. And more flights will be starting in November, such as American Airlines from Chicago to Juan Santamaría International Airport, in Alajuela Province and Daniel Oduber Quirós in Guanacaste Province. "The United States is the main one in the recovery (of tourism)," Gustavo Segura, Minister of Tourism said. As for European tourists, Segura indicates that the recovery has been slower by approximately 70% of the influx of tourists from Europe than what was recorded before the pandemic. Recently, Costa Rican representatives of the Ministry of Tourism participated in the Seatrade Cruise Global 2021 Fair, which took place at the Miami Beach Convention Center, seeking U.S. tourists. ------------------- What attractive features for tourists are there in Costa Rica that are not in Mexico?
