Rodrigo Chaves-Robles received his credentials as Elected President of Costa Rica at the Elections Supreme Tribunal, which is an independent public organization in charge of developing and monitoring the presidential election process in the country.

In addition to Chaves, the two Elected Vice Presidents, Stephan Brunner-Neibig and Mary Denisse Munive-Angermüller, also received their credentials.

The official document confirms the result of the second round of the Presidential Elections that took place on Sunday, April 3. The political party of Chaves, Social Democratic Progress won with 1,035,388 valid votes, approximately 52.8% of the votes.

In his credentials acceptance speech, Chaves mentioned the 42% in abstentionism. “We have heard the power of your silence (referring to the people who did not cast their vote) and we will work so that they trust Costa Rica and our beloved democracy again,” Chaves said.

The event took place in the Tribunal Auditorium in downtown San José, where the Electoral Magistrates also participated.

Last week, Chaves announced part of his team of ministers that will take office on May 8.

The Tribunal already delivered credentials to the 57 newly elected deputies, which will make up Congress, beginning May 1 to April 30, 2026.
