The Supreme Electoral Tribunal delivered the credentials to the 57 newly elected deputies, which will make up Congress, from May 1, 2022, to April 30, 2026.

The activity was held in the Francisco Sáenz Meza auditorium in downtown San Jose. This was a celebration for the newly-elected deputies from the General Elections that were held on Feb. 6.

Congress will be made up of six political parties. The Liberacion Nacional party will have 19 deputies, the party of the next government Progreso Social Democrático has 10 deputies, the Unidad Social Cristiana has 9 deputies, the Nueva República has 7 deputies, the Liberal Progresista will have 6 deputies and the Frente Amplio with 6 deputies.

The President Carlos Alvarado's party Accion Ciudadana couldn't get one single seat in the new Congress. The current ruling party, which has been in power for two terms, received less than 1% of support in the General Elections.

Of the 57 legislative seats, just over 53% (30 deputies) are men, the remaining 47% are women.

The majority of deputies are from San José (19) and Alajuela (11). The rest are representatives from the provinces of Cartago (7), Heredia (6), Puntarenas (5) and Guanacaste (4).

The new deputies will begin their duties on May 1.
