| Basic display
advertising rules:
1. Advertising is accepted at the discretion of the
newspaper. A.M.
Costa Rica reserves the right to edit, revise or reject any
advertising.
Advertising in bad taste, which contains libel or which panders to the
baser instincts will not be accepted. Specifically, graphics in which
individuals
are in extreme undress will not be accepted. However,
A. M. Costa Rica
is a strong believer in individual right of expression, and no
advertising
will be rejected without a valid reason.
2. Advertising must be more than just an Internet button
for a particular
business. Readers must be given a reason for selecting the advertiser's
offering. An effective advertisement is a complete sales talk that
encourages
reader response. A.M. Costa Rica encourages quality advertising by
quality
clients.
3. E-mail addresses and Web page links are encouraged
because this is
an online newspaper with a sophisticated readership.
4. All display advertising must be paid in advance in
cash, checks.
or via PayPal. Advertising is
denominated
in U.S. dollars and is payable in dollars or in colons at the
established
daily rate of exchange. Payment is to Consultantes Río
Colorado,
S.A., the parent company of A. M. Costa Rica.
Bank transfers
5. The newspaper has established a system of payments to
accounts in Banco
Nacional for the convenience of its clients.
We take deposits at Banco Nacional in our corporate
name:
Consultantes Río Colorado S.A.:
dollars: 617222-5
colons 213071-4 (at the current rate of exchange)
If an advertiser has an account with another Costa Rican
bank, he or she can
make the deposit electronically via the Sistema Interbancario de
Negociacón y Pagos Electrónicos (SINPE). Those
extended account numbers for us are:
colones: 15100010012130712
dollars: 15100010026172223
The advertiser also will need the cédula juridica of our
corporation, Consultantes Río Colorado S.A.: 3101290170
Using SINPE costs a few dollars, depending on the bank,
but it sure beats standing in line.
Pay Pal
PayPal is an electronic fund transfer service based in
the United States.
If an advertiser has an account there, a simple payment transfer can be
made. If not, an advertiser can provide the firm with a credit card
number
and make a transfer. That way, the credit card number is not
subject
to theft here. The message to their server is heavily encrypted and
ultra
secure.
Our payment address there is
payment@amcostarica.com
You can get to PayPal from here:

pal=SVMG42D7GWLMC
If you choose to open an account in Pay Pal, persons in
Costa Rica should
use whatever U.S. address they might have because Pay Pal still has not
reached agreement with the local banks and credit card companies here.
Pay Pal is owned by eBay, the online auction firm.
6. A. M. Costa Rica is not responsible for circumstances
outside its
control, including system failures, natural disasters, power shortages,
Internet outages or acts of war here or elsewhere. However, advertisers
will not be charged for any advertising that is not published.
7. The advertiser and advertising agency assume
liability for all content
[including text representation and illustrations] of advertisements
published
and also assume responsibility for any claims made against A.M. Costa
Rica,
including costs associated with defending against such a claim.
8. All positions are at the option of
A.M. Costa Rica. In no event will adjustments, reinstatements or
refunds
be made because of the position and/or section in which an
advertisement
has been published. A.M. Costa Rica will seek to comply with position
requests
and other stipulations that appear on insertion orders, but cannot
guarantee
that they will be followed.
Advertising account executives
are not authorized to modify this provision or to guarantee positioning
on behalf of A.M. Costa Rica. Misclassification of classified ads is
not
permitted.
9. A. M. Costa Rica will continue to make public its
monthly readership
statistics, which are maintained by an independent statistical program
at the Web server in the United States. When there might be a doubt as
to the validity of the statistics, A.M. Costa Rica will make every
effort
to validate the numbers presented.
10. A. M. Costa Rica will maintain editorial
independence from its advertising
clients, however, all business people in Costa Rica are encouraged to
provide
information for news stories about successes, expansion or other
business
events. Advertising executives may not promise editorial placement.
11. Advertising that does not arrive in a JPEG or GIF
format will be
subject to a $20-per-hour preparation charge at the discretion of the
newspaper.
The advertiser or advertising agency shall pay the cost of composition
of
advertisements set but not used. Charges for changes [not corrections]
from original layout and copy will be based on current composition
rates.
12. A.M. Costa Rica will not be responsible for errors
appearing in
advertisements or for errors due to late delivery of material from the
advertiser or advertising agency or from a third party designated by
the
advertiser or advertising agency as a source for material.
13. Cancellations, changes of insertion dates and/or
corrections must
conform to published deadlines.
14. Cancellations or changes cannot be guaranteed in
classified advertising
between the time the ad is ordered and the initial publication.
15. A.M. Costa Rica does not assume any liability for
the return of
material in connection with advertising unless a specific written
request
is received to hold such material subject to order for a period not
exceeding
30 days.
16. Claims for errors must be made within 72 hours
following publication
date.
17. There will be a $25 charge for any check not honored
by the bank.
Returned checks must be replaced with certified/cashier/wire transfer

within 48 hours
of notification. A.M. Costa Rica reserves the right to
withhold further advertising pending receipt of replacement funds.
18. In the event an account is referred
to a third party for collection, advertiser agrees to pay collection
and/or
attorney fees, as well as court costs incurred to effect
collection.
19. Incorrect rates on insertion orders which do not
correspond to the
rate card will be regarded as clerical errors and the advertisements
will
be published and charged at the applicable rates in effect at time of
publication.
20. Insertion orders are accepted by A.M. Costa Rica
subject to the
foregoing terms and conditions. Terms, conditions, rates or agreements
not set forth herein or in then-current rate schedules are not binding
on A.M. Costa Rica. Customer service representatives and sales
representatives
are not authorized to modify these terms and conditions.
21. The deadline for Internet-ready display advertising
material is
at noon the day before publication. However, in case of emergency, A.M.
Costa Rica will try to work with advertisers to ensure placement of the
ad. The deadline for advertising for which A.M. Costa Rica must make
Internet

case
of Monday publication, the deadlines are noon Friday and noon Thursday.
